A Token of Love for Waterfront Park

Overlook Walk Ribbon Cutting

Visit Overlook Walk, and you can take in the sweeping views of the Salish Sea and the Olympic Mountains. Turn back towards the city, you can see the sunset reflect off the downtown buildings. Among the many awe-inspiring new views in every direction,  you may not have noticed the small section of blank wall near the future café space on top of Overlook Walk.

In early 2026, the currently blank wall will be a massive array of botanical tokens featuring words from our supporters; a beautiful compilation of the hundreds of individuals who decided to “leave their mark on the Waterfront Park.”. Each person has decided to leave their mark on the park. When complete, the Community Wall will represent a mosaic of gratitude and connection, where each token represents a shared commitment to Waterfront Park’s vibrant future. Every botanical token carries a story—a gesture of love, gratitude, or celebration. We asked those who have chosen to reserve a botanical token to tell us more about why they wanted to be part of the Community Wall.

Deb Guenther works on the waterfront as a landscape architect and partner at Mithun. Reflecting on the project, she says the new space stretching from Pioneer Square to Belltown represents a significant commitment to design quality and the power of public spaces in building community.  “The individual message on our botanical token can remind people that they are part of a whole, something bigger than themselves,” said Deb. She hopes to spread a message that joy comes from knowing our communities—making us stronger when working together.

A lively urban waterfront park with people walking along a modern, landscaped pedestrian bridge. The Seattle Great Wheel and Elliott Bay are visible in the background, along with a mix of city buildings and distant stadiums.

A breathtaking day at Seattle’s waterfront, where the newly opened Overlook Walk connects the city to the shore with stunning views, lush landscaping, and vibrant public spaces.

Other supporters have reserved a botanical token as gifts to their loved ones, like Jane Nelson, who has lived in Pioneer Square for 11 years. “I watched the demolition of the viaduct, and the building of Waterfront Park,” Jane said. “Waterfront Park has been a special place for us…where we walk and enjoy the views, the people and the park. We love what has been created. Purchasing a botanical token on the Community Wall helps seal the memories and love.”

There will be several ways to celebrate and support the full opening of a park fifteen years in the making. Purchasing a botanical token is one way to share the love of a bright future for the park. With the Campaign for Waterfront Park now at 96% of our $170 million goal, every gift—tokens included—will help ensure the completion of Waterfront Park.
