- Tips from Waterfront Park’s insiders on how to prepare for your visit, travel to and from the Park and enjoy a full day by the Salish Sea.
Summer at Waterfront Park is almost here and we want to make sure you’re ready to make the most of it. From what to pack to where to take a rest, here’s everything you need to know before heading down to Waterfront Park
Before You Head Out
A little planning goes a long way. Here are a few things worth doing before you even leave the house:
- Get familiar with our online guide to Waterfront Park so you know what to expect when you arrive.
- RSVP to the event or program you plan to attend. You’ll get a calendar reminder with all the details and can add it to your Google or Outlook calendar.
- Check out our event accessibility resources ahead of time. Don’t see what you need? Email our team at [email protected] at least one week before the event and we’ll do our best to make it work.
What to Pack
Seattle weather has a personality of its own, so come prepared:
- Bring a water bottle. There are several drinking fountains throughout the Park, including some at pup height for your furry friend. Maybe skip bringing your favorite bottle just in case it gets lost. It happens.
- Camera, iPhone or polaroid— your choice in what you bring along because you’ll want to capture these views and memories with your family and friends.
- Pack extra sunscreen, an umbrella and whatever layers make you feel ready for anything. You’ll thank yourself later.
Getting Here
However you’re getting to the Park, we’ve got directions to help you find your way.
- Check out directions whether you’re driving, cycling or strolling this way.
- Been meaning to travel on your bike? Try out the 1.2-mile protected bike lane along the waterfront that connects to the city’s broader bicycle network.
- The free King County Metro shuttle runs Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend (May 27 – Sept. 7) from 10 a.m.–10 p.m. A great way to get around and scope out additional
- Need elevator access? There are four elevators connecting to the waterfront at key locations between Western Ave, Alaskan Way and Overlook Walk. See the Seattle Accessible Route Planner for full details.
- Need a restroom break? The restroom at Pier 58 is well worth a visit, staffed by a friendly member of our team and filled with fresh flowers from Pike Place Market!
- Whenever you’re not sure where to go once you’re here, follow the event signs featuring our logo or visit the website. They’ll point you in the right direction.
Pit Stops Worth Making
- Grab a coffee with a view of the Salish Sea and Olympic Mountains with Boon Boona Coffee at Overlook Walk Café.
- Take a seat at Pier 62, catch the ferries go by and take in the sunset.
- Let the kiddos loose at the jellyfish playground on Pier 58—a family favorite.
- Meander between the flower beds and permanent public art along the Promenade.
- Get a sensory reset at Pioneer Square Habitat Beach with the water and breeze rolling off this restored stretch of shoreline.
- Cool off with a scoop or two of Molly Moon’s Homemade Ice Cream at Washington Street Boat Landing
