Join us for an evening of culture and community featuring cultural vendors and small businesses curated by CIDBIA (Chinatown-International District Business Improvement Area) and live performances curated by Union Cultural Center.

Seattle Shines is a three-part community activation series designed to elevate local voices, artists and communities. Rooted in the values of the Cultural Master Plan, this series highlights three of Seattle’s unique neighborhoods and cultural hubs.

Union Cultural Center

The Union Cultural Center is a trusted source of quality classes, events, and school Artist in Residencies. UCC provides classes in dance, martial arts, and holistic health, taught by master level teachers.

Join us on a journey across the globe with high-energy performances in Capoeira, Samba, Kung Fu, and Cuban Salsa. Bring the whole family to enjoy the rich cultures represented in the CID.

Anh Ơi Bake Shop

Anh Ơi Bake Shop started as a Vietnamese-American cookie company in Seattle, born from the idea that the flavors of home and the craft of American baking didn’t have to choose sides.

It’s since grown into something bigger – a platform for Asian American bakers, where we provide kitchen space, retail space, and distribution networks for other small Asian bakers whose food reminds us of home right alongside our own. Based in Japantown, Anh Ơi bakes identity and nostalgia into every batch, with one cookie, one cake, one story at a time.

Brazilian Swag

Deise is a Brazilian dance artist and educator specializing in Afro-Brazilian dance, with over a decade of experience teaching, performing, and leading cultural residencies internationally.

She began dancing at age seven and has since trained with renowned masters across Brazil, grounding her work in traditions such as Samba Afro, Samba de Roda, and Orixá-based movement.

Since 2017, she has been based in the United States, sharing her work through workshops, performances, and community collaborations nationwide and abroad. Deise’s practice centers cultural preservation, embodied learning, and creating meaningful connections through the rhythms and stories of the African diaspora.

Cuban Salsa with Mileydi Valdes Atalay

Mileydi Valdes Atalay is a Cuban-born dancer, choreographer, and dance instructor specializing in traditional and popular Cuban dance styles. With extensive experience in performance and education, she has dedicated her career to teaching and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Cuba through dance.Her expertise includes Cuban Salsa (Casino), Son Cubano, Rumba, Cha-Cha-Chá, Mambo, Reggaeton, and Afro-Cuban dance traditions.

Throughout her career, she has shared her knowledge and passion for Cuban culture in countries across Asia and Africa, teaching students from diverse backgrounds and helping preserve the authenticity of these vibrant dance forms.

Currently based in the United States, Mileydi continues to teach classes, workshops, and cultural programs, inspiring dancers of all levels while fostering a deeper appreciation for Cuban music, movement, and traditions. Her mission is to connect people through dance and keep the spirit of Cuban culture alive around the world.

DJ KBOOGIE

DJ KBOOGIE (she/her) is a First-Gen, Fil-Am DJ, dancer and creative artist based in Seattle, WA. Her background in dance and array of musical influences range from hip hop, R&B, disco, house to 90s-2000s club eras, Y2K, EDM, and global club sounds, all of which guides her sets through experimental, funky mixes and a showcase of upbeat, dynamic grooves.

On deck, KBOOGIE blends versatile sounds with diverse genres to foster creative expression into magnetic, energetic, inclusive dance floors. No matter the environment, KBOOGIE continues to captivate audiences with her unique and eclectic multi-format style while bringing forth a fun and colorful vibe to each unique occasion. Miero Coffee Bar

Miero Coffee Bar is a community-focused coffee shop located in Seattle’s Chinatown-International District. We focus on specialty coffee, matcha, creative seasonal drinks, and curated food offerings while creating an energetic and welcoming space for both locals and visitors.

Miero regularly collaborates with local artists, businesses, and community organizations through events and neighborhood activations.

Northwest Kung Fu

Master David Leong has over 50 years of training and teaching Traditional Tiger Crane Kung Fu. He has students from all over the world. He was also a former film actor around the world. His devotion to Traditional Kung Fu continues with his many devoted students.

Wing Luke

Located in Seattle’s Chinatown International District, the Wing Luke Museum is a culture, art and history museum focusing on the experiences of Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders. Established in 1967, the museum is a Smithsonian Institution affiliate and the only pan-Asian Pacific American community-based museum in the United States.

Friends strives to ensure Waterfront Park, and our events are inclusive, accessible, and welcoming to everyone.

Waterfront Park is an outdoor space in downtown Seattle providing various amenities such as wheelchair accessible seating, shade, water stations, cooling fans, and ADA accessible restrooms.
