Black History Month
Black History is not to be celebrated just this month, but every day, and is an integral part of our shared history. This year’s Black History Month theme celebrates Black art and artists. From commemorating the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop to partnering with Wa Na Wari’s Black Spatial Histories Institute to spotlight personal stories of Black longshore workers on the Waterfront, we here at Friends are dedicated to uplifting, centering, and honoring Black History.
Explore the links below to learn about a variety of community and neighborhood events across the city that embrace and celebrate Black culture through the arts. Attend an event near you and take the opportunity to learn, reflect, and appreciate the significant contributions and experiences of Black individuals on our waterfront, in our city, and beyond. Together, let’s continue to celebrate and elevate Black history, contributions. and stories.
