Plankton + Paint

Come dive into an underwater world of imagination! Through a community art project, we will be collaborating on an art piece – painting an underwater scene! We will uncover the amazing life that lives in every drop of seawater: plankton! Seattle Aquarium staff will bring special equipment to collect plankton, as well as microscopes for observations.

All ages are welcome.

Giant Puppets: Upcycling into Play

We will be exploring the many ways to reduce, reuse and recycle natural and salvaged materials to create a large-scale interactive art piece. Or in this case, a giant puppet! For this occasion, we will be creating a sea jelly which our audience will build and play with as a community. We will have a variety of materials and tools available for people to use and provide guidance where desired. Join us for some large-scale puppetry fun!

Please note: People are welcome to bring a few small recyclables, fabric strips or strings to add to the project. Please, no plastic bags as we have many already. If people bring their own recyclables or materials, please be prepared to take unused materials home to be recycled or otherwise reused.

Baby Harbor Seal Baby Shower

It’s a seal-ebration! Every spring and summer, seal and sea lion mothers along the West coast give birth to their new generation of pups. You’re invited to join the Seattle Aquarium as we throw a Pup Shower in their honor. We’ll play games, make Mother’s Day cards for the new moms, and learn the best gift we, as humans, can give our new seal neighbors.

All ages are welcome. Event limited to 30 participants at a time. We’ll play games on a rotating basis so everyone gets a turn, and the craft table will be available throughout the day. Seattle Aquarium educators will be on hand to answer questions and provide insight into our local seal population. Event will be held outdoors, so please dress for the weather. Masks are optional (subject to change per public health guidelines).
